Bad Company performed July 23rd at the Amphitheatre. What a great show and the audience was really enjoying themselves singing along. If you get a chance to see them before they go their separate ways, do it.....

We attended the REO Speedwagon/Pat Benatar concert at the Amphitheater July 2nd. The weather was great for an outdoor concert and it appeared to be a sellout crowd. REO opened the show and played a great set. Vocals were spot -on as was their instrumentals. BUT..........

WHO RAN THE SOUND CONSOLE FOR PAT BENATAR?

I've seen Ms Benatar at concerts before and her voice is always stunning and crystal clear. Last night however, during her peformance, everything was muffled and loud. Even when she spoke one on one with the audience, you couldn't understand what was said. I spoke to several people during her show, and the feeling was widespread. I walked front to back, and tried both sides. It didn't matter. In my humble opionion, It was the worst sound mix heard at the Amphitheater since it opened!! I hope the folks at the Amphitheater took note and will address this anomaly in the future.

The Gamble Rogers Folk Festival came and went. Folks stars Janis Ian, Loudon Wainright III, Cheryl Wheeler as well as Pierce Pettis, David Wilcox and many others performed at venues located throughout our city. Most of the shows were concentrated on or about St George street and drew very large and appreciative crowds. This years' event was both a directional shift and an experiment with the city of St Augustine taking over the festival. It was in the past, located at the St Augustine Amphitheatre and the St Johns County fairgrounds. With dwindling attendees over the last couple of years, the festival appeared to be losing ground and headed for its' demise. This year though, saw the city step in and make an attempt at it's resurrection. From the crowds attending the shows, it appears there is still life in The Gamble Rogers Festival. And that friends, is good news for everyone. We look forward to next years successful festival.

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Dave Mason, performed to a very robust and appreciative crowd at the 9th Annual Rythm and Ribs festival-Saturday March 27th.

Moody Blues Concert,

The timeless band, The Moody Blues, played to a sold out crowd at the amphitheater last night. A very nice evening tho the weather was a little chilly. The music was excellent with strong vocals and harmony. It was overheard more than once, I forgot that was 'their' song. A great evening of music and memories.

As the locals all know, St Johns County passed an ordinance allowing all pubs and lounges to stay open until 2:00 am. St Augustine Beach and St Augustine followed their lead and passed the same closing time. For St Augustine, it is a trial for a couple months to see how it works out.

We stopped at American Graffiti Saturday evening. The football coverage was great! Outside on the deck we found Chris Emerson providing the entertainment. Very nice acoustic set with Chris singing everything from Johnny Cash to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Chris hails from North Carolina and we found him to be very friendly and accomodating to all. All covers were exceptional and Chris has 3 CD's for sale. Stop by and see him Thursdays and Saturdays at American Graffiti from 6:00 til .......
